Vada Pav Recipe

 Vada Pav Recipe

Vada Pav is a popular street food snack in India, particularly in the state of Maharashtra. It is a simple and delicious sandwich made with a spiced potato fritter (vada) and a soft bread roll (pav). Here's how you can make this popular snack at home:

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 4-5 pav bread rolls
  • Green chutney
  • Tamarind chutney
  • Onion rings
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. To make the vada, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When they start to splutter, add chopped green chilies and grated ginger. Sauté for a minute.

  2. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, asafoetida, and salt. Mix well.

  3. Add the mashed potatoes and mix everything well until it's nicely combined. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.

  4. Divide the potato mixture into small portions and make round balls out of them.

  5. Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Once the oil is hot, add the potato balls and fry them until they turn golden brown.

  6. Remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.

  7. Slice the pav bread rolls into half and spread green chutney and tamarind chutney on the inside of the pav.

  8. Place the vada in between the pav and press it slightly.

  9. Serve hot with more chutney, onion rings, and coriander leaves.

Enjoy your homemade vada pav!
